Jane Digby was a woman of extraordinary beauty and adventure. Born into an aristocratic family in 1807, she lived a life that was both glamorous and tragic. She married three times, had numerous lovers, and traveled extensively throughout the Middle East and Europe. Her diary, which she kept for over 40 years, offers a fascinating glimpse into her world.

Jane Digby was born in Sherborne Castle, Dorset, England. Her father was a wealthy landowner and her mother was a lady-in-waiting to Queen Charlotte. Jane was a beautiful and intelligent child, and she was educated at home by private tutors. She was also a talented artist and musician.

In 1824, at the age of 17, Jane married Edward Law, 1st Baron Ellenborough. The marriage was a disaster. Edward was a cold and distant husband, and Jane was unhappy and lonely. In 1830, she left Edward and traveled to Europe with her lover, Prince Felix of Schwarzenberg.

Jane and Felix lived together for several years, and they had two children. However, their relationship was turbulent, and they eventually parted ways. In 1847, Jane married Sheikh Medjuel el Mezrab, a Bedouin chieftain. She converted to Islam and adopted the name Jane el Mezrab.

Jane and Medjuel lived together in the Syrian Desert for several years. They had three children, but their marriage was also unhappy. Medjuel was a cruel and abusive husband, and Jane eventually left him and returned to England.

In her later years, Jane Digby lived in Damascus, Syria. She became a respected member of the local community, and she was known for her kindness and generosity. She died in Damascus in 1881, at the age of 74.

Jane Digby's diary is a remarkable document. It offers a unique glimpse into the life of a woman who lived an extraordinary life. The diary is full of vivid descriptions of her travels, her relationships, and her thoughts and feelings. It is a valuable historical document, and it is also a fascinating read.
