Excerpt:
Emily took a deep breath and walked into the party. She had been dreading this moment all week, but she knew she had to do it. She had to face Jake Ryan.
She scanned the room, her heart pounding in her chest. And then she saw him. He was standing in the corner, talking to a group of people. He was even more handsome than she remembered.
Emily took a step towards him, but then she stopped. She couldn't do this. She couldn't face him after what had happened.
She turned to leave, but Jake saw her. He smiled and walked towards her.
"Emily," he said. "I'm so glad you came."
Emily couldn't speak. She just stared at him.
"I've been thinking about you all week," Jake said. "I need to talk to you."
Emily hesitated. But then she nodded.
They walked outside and stood under the stars.
"I'm sorry, Emily," Jake said. "I'm so sorry for what I did."
Emily didn't say anything.
"I know I hurt you," Jake said. "But I want you to know that I never meant to. I was just scared."
Emily looked at him. She could see the sincerity in his eyes.
"I believe you," she said.
Jake smiled. "Thank you," he said.
They stood there for a moment, just looking at each other. And then, Jake leaned down and kissed her.
Emily kissed him back. And in that moment, she knew that she had forgiven him.
