Ayden, who lives in Maryland, was diagnosed with autism spectrum disFree Download (ASD) at a young age. He has always been a creative and imaginative child, but he has also struggled with social skills and communication. When the pandemic hit, Ayden was forced to stay home from school and all of his extracurricular activities. At first, he was scared and lonely. But then, he started to find ways to cope.
Ayden began by writing stories and drawing pictures. He also started a YouTube channel where he shared his stories and art with the world. Soon, Ayden's videos were reaching people all over the globe. People were inspired by his creativity and his resilience. They wrote to him, telling him how much his videos had helped them through the pandemic.
One of the people who was inspired by Ayden's story was author Donna Gephardt. Gephardt, who has written over 50 books for children and young adults, was immediately drawn to Ayden's positive attitude and his ability to find hope in even the darkest of times.
Gephardt contacted Ayden and his family and asked if she could write a book about his experiences during the pandemic. Ayden and his family agreed, and Gephardt began working on the novel that would become The Quarantine Kid.
